In Response To: Re: Do Swans Return to Where They Were Born? (The Regal Swan)

Hi Brenda

Swans usually return to the same vicinity of their hatching. However, if the parents claim a certain area, then the returning juveniles will be deterred from nesting too closely. If there has been a major change to the swans' habitat, i.e. , landscaping which removes familiar nesting/feeding sites or additions such as new plants or ornamental structures, the presence of predators (wild or domestic), change in food or shelter resources, or any other major disturbances can cause the birds to rethink their choice of habitat.
