In Response To: Dirty Swan (stopped preening) (Lynn)

What causes a swan to stop preening? We haven't seen the female in several weeks and the male is just filthy, although he used to be meticulous in his grooming. Not sure if the female is nesting or gone for some other reason. Could he be grieving?
