Yes, these photos are indeed special. We have not seen anything like this in a natural setting in the 10 years that we have been studying both black and mute swans. Do you have any idea if the swans are male or females? If both swans are of the same gender, this might explain the behavior because they at least have someone to talk to or hang around. If they are indeed opposite genders, it will be interesting to see if they actually mate and can produce viable offspring. If they do, please let us know and send photos of the offspring.
