Ask the Swan Specialist

In Response To: Re: Black Swans yearlings: Sexing; and seemingly underweight: Should I deworm? (The Regal Swan)

Hi Julian:

We cannot diagnose something online without first examining the birds. Secondly, since we do not know the problem, we cannot offer a treatment, i.e., anti-parasitic, anti-fungal, vaccine or antibiotic to treat the cause. Finally, we do not know if the drugs in your country are the same as ours, we do not know the weight of your birds, and there are many other reasons that we cannot diagnose and treat online. We would suggest that something is definitely wrong and the only way it is going to get treated is with a proper diagnosis. A veterinarian, even if not a waterfowl or bird veterinarian will be able to conduct some preliminary tests of the fecal matter, assess the bird's general health and prescribe something for the condition. We are sorry we cannot help any further, but the only thing that will save your birds is to get them to a licensed veterinarian. The Regal Swan
