In Response To: Re: Swans Sitting on the Field rather than the Lake (The Regal Swan)

Hi:

The swans sitting and feeding in the field may mean that this area is on the wintering migration path and the field is a feeding stopover. The swans are eating vegetation to supplement aquatic vegetation that is not readily available during the winter months. Swans are grazing animals just like rabbits, cows and deer. They need vegetation in their diet. Even if this area is not just a stopover, the swans are making the most of the easy accessible salad plate. Once the swans have had enough to eat, they will return to the lake. The Regal Swan
