I spoke with one of our swan veterinarians and he confirmed that this bacteria can pose a toxicity to wildlife, domestic animals and livestock. Whether this extends to avian populations, is to be seen, but if nothing else, we would recommend removing the swans from the lagoon. Housing them in a secured area, even if indoors, and providing them with shelter, clean water and supplemental feeding until the problem rectifies itself would be our suggestion. We know that this is a major inconvenience, especially for the person or facility that must swan sit, but in the end, better safe than sorry. Please let us know the results of the toxicology reports.
