Ask the Swan Specialist

In Response To: Cygnet not with parents (Amy)

Hello,

I have become quite enamored with the 2 mute swans that swim in the bay in front of my house in New England and watched them next. They had one cygnet around the 3rd week of April this year (only survivor) and watching them parent has been a joy. Today, I saw the parents swimming and no cygnet in site. The 3 had been together always previous to this. Would they live their baby alone this young? I know typically cygnets leave at about 6 months. I sure hope nothing happened to the baby!

Thank you for your insight and assistance. I love the website and enjoy learning about swans from you.

Sincerely,

Amy from RI, USA
