Hi Barb:
There is a possibility that if one died from a respiratory infection that they may all be infected. If a swan stops eating or pooping, it is not a good sign. We would get them both to a veterinarian immediately. Get a blood test completed and place on antibiotics. To boost their appetite our vets have used B12 shots as well as tube feeding. If the birds do not get nutrition quickly they may go digress so quickly that they cannot recover.
Did you purchase the swans from a reputable breeder? Were there any other birds at the facility sick? Did you receive any vet related documentation verifying the health of the birds to include recent exams, vaccinations or other medications? The seller/breeder should also have provided you with certification of their gender, age and bloodline. Hopefuly, you did purchase from a reputable breeder. Unfortunately, in many cases we know this does not happen and it becomes a buyer beware situation. On another note we would strongly suggest that you remove the swans and quarrantine them from the rest of your fowl so that if it is a contagion is present it does not spread and all of your fowl tested. Hopefully this is not the case and the swans recover after veterinary care. We would also suggest that if the swans should die to have a necropsy conducted to find out what went wrong. Please let us know how this progresses. The Regal Swan
