In Response To: White Foam Around Eye of Mute Swan (Justin)

I was called in to check a mute swan that's made its residence on a private beach on Long Island, NY. I noticed that the left eye had a white foam at the front edge of the eye. Is this just a lubrication for the eye or for cleansing of the eye? The swan walked slowly around the beach and occasionally stumbled onto its stomach. Thanks.
