In Response To: trumpeter swan calls (suzy)
A Trumpeter Swan is called a Trumpeter due to its blaring (and we do mean blaring!!!) trumpet like calls. Especially, early morning, this species of swan is very vocal. Unlike the Mute Swans which have long straight-like trachea, Trumpeter Swans have long convolutions in its trachea which allows it to make the trumpeting like calls. With a straight trachea, Mute Swans cannot make the high blaring noises which is why it is called mute and is the less vocal of all swan species. The Regal Swan
