In Response To: Re: Nest effected by high tide/storm (The Regal Swan)

Hi Karen

The parent swans may be sitting next to the eggs, but if they haven't been sitting on the eggs, then they will not survive. There is no way that they can collect the eggs on their own and put them back in a nest. If you can add straw, gather the eggs and place them in the straw, the parents might try to re-sit on them. This will not guarantee anything hatching or success, but if something is viable, the parents may try. You should only do this if you have someone help you to keep the parents away from you so that you can put down some straw, gather the eggs and gently place them in the straw. Gently pick up the eggs and try not to shake them. Place them in the same position as you pick them up. Let the parents see you pick-up the eggs so they know that the eggs are theirs'. Good luck. Let us know how this progresses. The Regal Swan
