Ask the Swan Specialist

In Response To: Re: In the popular Swans feeding the Koi fish video what is going on? (Dora)

I know they arent feeding the fish, somehow I thought they're kinda letting the koi get away with it or even doing what that parrot does which is unusual.. Anyway ok, got the point, thanks a lot

I'm just wondering about this:
- Is it possible that a swan eats with no water around? What happens then? Cause I'm sure I've seen those in the park being fed with no water around and Im wondering if that's normal

- Pic is from a lake in Greece.. At my town we have those swans coming and the type with black top of beak (Cygnus cygnus?) which I havent seen for 2 years or so.. What do they eat? Wiki says aquatic plants in both cases but I've seen them eating- veges, grains, pieces of fruits, grass (?not sure), seeds, even cereal (bad idea but people leave whatever) We used to have swans, ducks, pelicans and even flamingos in the sea so Im wondering why they used to come and now they dont.. In some cases (as with the swans and seagulls) probably its cause we stopped providing them with food

May you have great holidays and an amazing 2016 congrats for your site and thank you for your valuable information
