In Response To: Re: Swan Behavior after Mate Passes (The Regal Swan)

Hi Marilyn:

Usually, not always, but usually, if a female mate dies, the male will not re-mate. He will be just as happy to go along without another mate. Usually, not always, but usually, if a male mate dies, the female will re-mate.

Having said all of the above, it is up to the individual swan whether it will re-mate. If the male is showing signs of aggression, this may be an indicator that he is not willing to re-mate. Give it a couple of weeks, just ensure that the female is not getting hurt. If the aggression continues or escalates, the best thing to do is to give the female back or find another home for her and let your male swan go about his business alone. The Regal Swan
