Hi Heidi:

We are assuming that these are wild swans. If they are captive swans and pinioned, then it will be up to the owner to remove the juveniles before the parents banish them from the pond. In this case, without being able to fly, the juveniles will have difficulty finding food or go into areas where predators may roam.

If they are wild swans, then they will leave the area and look for other juveniles in the area. The juveniles will eventually pair with a mate and then look for territory of their own to start a family. This is nature and not much that can be done as for ensuring survival, etc. Swan parents usually begin to chase the juvenile swans from the area between 9-12 months of age.

However, we have several contacts who assure us that some swan families may scuffle during nesting season, but juveniles with new mates will return back to the same pond in which they were hatched and eventually settle down with parents, grand parents, great parents, cousins, etc. The Regal Swan
