Ask the Swan Specialist

In Response To: Swans on Hamilton Lake, Indiana (Patricia)

A friend who lives on Hamilton Lake, in Hamilton, Indiana just told me that they have been culling mute swans. Their reasoning is that there is no way to control increasing numbers of these swans except for killing them. They have been shooting the swans -- sixteen so far -- there are 52 left. They gave all the usual reasons that they are an invasive species, that their feces will affect the lake, etc. Supposedly these swans are too aggressive to get close to their eggs to put oil on them like they have been doing with the geese. Just wondering if you can give any advice I can pass on to help the swans?
