Ask the Swan Specialist

In Response To: slaughter of swans in Indiana (Fritzi)

We have recently had over 20 swans destroyed on our lake. Many of the residents are horrified, but the DNR does such a good job of quoting information and I don't know where to look to counteract that--where is the research. For example, they say the swans eat our native lake vegetation and not the invasive (which our association spends thousands to spray every year) Is that true. Also, they say that Indiana native ducks are not on the lake as much because of the swans. How far can a mute swan migrate? Will the young leave the lake eventually or will the population grow uncheck? I need to sound credible to fight this, it has to be more than my heart, I need research......Thank you.
