How long have you been feeding the swans? Trust must be developed not immediate. Just because you threw food out does not mean that the swans really know or trust you. This is going to take some time to develop a trusting relationship so that the birds know that you are not trying to harm them or their cygnets. The best thing to do would be to remove the 2 year old from this setting. Children can make unwanted noises or move suddenly which may alarm the swans. Get the swan's trust and then introduce the child. If the swans can see you playing or walking with your child in the yard next to the pond, they will begin to associate you and the child together and again, not intrusive guests. Good Luck.
