Ask the Swan Specialist

In Response To: Re: Territorial Swan (Tracie)

Thanks for your feedback. It sounds like a real conundrum. We are fairly confident it is a female as the seller works with a vet to pinion and sex identify the swans at birth. Can't speak to why he sold the clutch at this age though. We do have a fairly large pen and can enlarge even more to make for a better habitat. At the moment I try to let it out so it can explore a bit but am mindful about of it becoming too stressed/tired from the other birds. It seems like the swans are extra aggressive towards the cygnet when we are around. Is that normal? They don't seem to mind the ducks or even geese. Do they just sense some kind of threat from their "own kind"? We will continue to monitor. Thanks.
