In Response To: Re: Adult female swan with fishing lure in her heel/ankle (The Regal Swan)

Hi Rob:

The fishing hook needs to be removed and antibiotic cream placed on the wound. The barb should be clipped and then the fishing hook removed just as you would if you were to be impaled with a fishing hook. We would love to tell you to find a knowledgeable rescuer, but unfortunately, in your state if you take an injured Mute Swan to a rehab facility or veterinarian, they will most likely kill it as Michigan wants to kill all Mute Swans. Therefore, unless you can find a no-kill facility to help, you will need to safely and humanely remove the hook which would be extremely beneficial to the swan. The Regal Swan
