About a year ago two mute swans were donated to us (work). We were told that they were two females and then rumors started that they were two males. Last week we watched one of the swans lay an egg. There was another egg that was laid sometime over the weekend. Both swans haven’t paid much attention to the eggs until yesterday. One started to move it around with its beak until the other swan ran it off and covered it with twigs. The swan that was run off, went to the other egg and sat on it for a bit. After a few minutes they both returned to the water. How do we know if the eggs are fertilized? We may have two females, we don’t know. If they are not fertilized, do we leave the eggs where they are? Any suggestions as to where I could find more information about the mating of mute swans! Thank you for your time!
