Hi Caroline:

If he is attacking you are the swan keeper/owner, then you need to let him know that this is unacceptable behavior. There are several humane ways to incorporate this training.

1. When the swan comes toward you, grab him (gently but firmly and watch the wings so that he does not hurt you or strikes the wings from a surrounding hard surface). Immediately place him in a sitting position, state firmly NO and begin petting him on the neck and holding his head close to you. Then, release him.

2. Prepare for a confrontation near a garden hose. Once he begins to attack, spray him with the water hose or a water bottle sprayer. While spraying him (DO NOT SPRAY into the eyes), state NO.

3. Make him know that you are the head swan or Alpha Swan. Get a large white towel, as soon as he attacks, raise the towel, state no and gently touch the back of his feathers with the towel. The white towel gives the illusion that you are a bigger swan. See if this works.
Let us know. The Regal Swan
