In Response To: male swan left the female (germana)

Two UK resident swans live in a large pond in a large pond beside my home. They have been there together for years. However this year something strange is happening. They built a nest and have never been near it. It is now mid April. Now I have discovered that the male swan has gone and the female is looking distressed e.g. making crying sounds i have never heard before, consistent rubbing of her neck and head all over her body and plunging her head front on into the water and out again repeatedly.

Any ideas whats going on?

I don't think he's died by the way!
