Hi Elaine:

This statement is not necessarily true. Most swans mate for life. This fidelity depends on several factors: individual swan, swan species and success of having cygnets and raising them to adulthood. Therefore, most swans are faithful to their mates. One species that this does not necessarily hold true is the Whooper Swan which has a 6% divorce rate. The Regal Swan
