female swan on local fishing lake

Hi here, I'm not sure if you can help but, I went fishing with my partner earlier today, (we're regulars) and the resident swans where doing their usual stuff. Only Perky (the female and yes I have named them and they do actually respond can you believe!!) is looking a little... underweight and generally tired, not her usual self. She's normally really bubbly and sociable (with me anyway.)

They both tend to stay away from people on the whole, but we just seem to have connected.

Anyway, I'm a bit worried about her, she wasn't eating any of the maggots i was throwing to her, and she's just not interested. She literaly came to within a foot of me, still in the water and put her head on her back in her feathers and had a sleep.

I'm only worried as i said, she's not her usual self. Lost weight, a bit down in the dumps oh and she was shaking her head alot. I did have a look while she was near me to see if there was any hooks or anything like that which could be irritating her mouth, but nothing that i could see.

Could it be mating season and it's just taken it out of her? She does have a partner, Pinky and he looks fine. Big, strong, glowing in fact as usual! so he's fine!! I think they're both comming up to 6 yrs old now.

Anyway, if you could respond a.s.a.p we'd really appriciate it.

Thanks and love
Laura C, Pinky & Perky

xx
