Hi

Yes, sometimes they will go off by themselves to die. But, there are other causes for this behavior other than something wrong with the swan.

It is now the beginning of nesting season. The parent swans are chasing last year's cygnets from the breeding habitat.

The juvenile swans that have been chased are now going into areas to look for their habitats as well as a mate.

Swans are grazers, meaning they eat grasses. Therefore, swans will go into various areas also looking for vegetation to eat especially during the winter months. As you can see, there are many reasons for seeing a lone swan. Should you have any concerns, please contact the RSPCA or Wendy Hermon at Swan Support in Datchet. They will send someone out to check on the swan and render appropriate care if necessary. The Regal Swan
