Ask the Swan Specialist

In Response To: Re: Wry neck? (Dianna)

Hi. Thanks so much for the information. I found out a day or so later my swan had lead toxicity. We have completed Ca EDTA chelation. He is on oral Flagyl (Vet recently found flagella in his stool.) We will be repeating the lab for lead in a few days. His X Rays are clear. The neuro symptoms are gone but he still is eating poorly.

I am giving him 1/2 cracked corn and 1/2 egg layer pellets. I am still tube feeding him ground layer pellets 2 times daily. We have never given our birds much bread and he was never a great fan of bread anyway. However, he will devour bread right now, so I know he can eat. He also eats a very small amount of the corn/layer pellets. He is still thin and we are heading into winter. I have tube fed for about 6 weeks now. I can't tube feed him forever. I don't know what to do. Can you please offer suggestions? Thank you for your help!! Dianna
