Hi Beth:
You will need someone else and one of your dogs to help chase the swan. We want to do this safely so that no one or the swan/dog gets hurt. Place a tight leash on your dog and have it walk along the pool deck barking loudly. DO NOT LET THE DOG ENGAGE THE SWAN, we just need the dog to bark loudly. Have someone hold a pool pole and gently prod the water behind the swan to chase it from the water and fly away.

The only way that the swan is going to be safe and return to eating and a normal life is to chase it from the area. A barking dog, pool pole gently prodding and humans chasing the swan will let the bird know that this is not a hospitable place to reside or return. Keep repeating the process should it return or fail to completely leave. With all of the bad winter weather, the swans may have found your swimming pool a sort of rest stop to get a quick bath and drink as they head back to their spring nesting areas. Please let us know how this situation works out. The Regal Swan
