Hi Bryanna:

Territorialism and acceptance of new swans introduced to a swan habitat totally depends upon age and individual swan attributes. Females can be just as territorial as males when it comes to the introduction of new swans to their habitat. Younger swans seem more tolerant. The major issue here would be that the sisters may turn on the swan inhabitant and try to displace her from the habitat as they get older. Again, all of this totally depends on the personality of the individual swans.

You might try to see how this works out. However, any signs of over aggression and the new sisters may need to be placed in another home. Also, another note is that the female swans can still mate, build nests and produce non-fertile eggs as part of the nesting process. This means that there will be an odd female out during mating season, but again, the ladies may be able to work this out without too many problems.

DO NOT just drop the new swans into the pond and expect everyone to get along. There needs to be a pen (1/2 in water and 1/2 on land with feeder inside, and covered top to bottom to prevent predation). The new swans will need to stay in the pen for approximately 2 weeks to introduce themselves to the resident swan as well as their new habitat. This introduction will allow you to observe any signs of aggression that could result in an injury to any swan and determine whether to continue the introduction or placement of the swans to another home.
