Hi Dave: The noise comes from the massive swan's wings which move up and down rapidly and displace air to gain lift. The whomp whomp sound you hear is the wings moving against the air. Tundra Swans (North America) were once called the whistling swans because of the whistling sound that the swans' wings made while displacing air during take-off and flight. The Regal Swan
