In Response To: How to Capture young swans on my lake (Jack)

Last year I lost the two young swans when parents drove them over the dam and off the lake. We found remains later after critter got them.

My 5 acre lake is surrounded on all sides with trees and nearest neighbor is 1/4 mile away so it is difficult to time being on dam when young swans finally leave.

I feed them from troughs at my dock (dog food and lettuce) and they are tame enough to occasionally feed from my hand.

Question. Is there any way to capture them that a nimble old man can do (with a neighbor or two)?

I have thought about a casting net but not sure if that is a good idea or not as birds are about 7 months old and almost as large as parents.

They are now swimming away from their parents so it is only a matter of time so need any help you can provide.

By the way I purchased parents (1 yr old) from dealer about 10 years ago and wonder how long swans live.

Thanks

Jack
