In Response To: Re: Found Black Swan - Concerned about gators (The Regal Swan)

Hi Jeanie:

If the swan does not have a leg or wing tag, neck collar or a microchip, there is no way of knowing where it came from unless someone posts something in the newspaper or online. Which online post they would even use is a big question. The bigger question is where the swan could have come from and that could be literally anywhere within hundreds to thousands of miles.

Therefore, there are several things that you can do. Check for neck collar, wing or leg tag. If you do not see one, (they are very obvious), then take it to a veterinarian and have them use a universal scanner to see if it has a micro-chip in its breast. If not, then, there really is no way of knowing who it belongs to unless someone comes forward.

If you cannot find the swan a good home, we checked with Bob Knox from Knox Swans in Illinois. He stated that he would take the swan and give it a good home. Please give him a call at 847-875 3947 and he'll work out the details with you. The Regal Swan
