In Response To: Mute swan feeding behavior (Makai)

I recently have been observing a mute swan for a report in my biology class and noticed a unusual behavior. After this swan takes a bite of grass from the shore it dips it's beak into the pond and seems to rinse its meal before swallowing. If you could tell me the significance of this it would be greatly appreciated.
