Hi Julie:

Actually, dog food or anything with too much protein can be harmful to the birds. Dog food is not only rich in protein which can cause angel wing in the birds, but there is no nutritional value and the swans could actually be malnourished eating this food.

The swans need to have a mixture of poultry layer pellets (which will provide them with the necessary minerals, vitamins and nutrients), and cracked corn which will act as a filler and make them fill full (add weight). You can also supplement with a small amount of bread and plenty of lettuce. The lettuce will help with their vegetation/grazing needs. We hope this information is of benefit. The Regal Swan
