Ask the Swan Specialist

In Response To: Re: new swans in the lake-update (Pat Licata)

Thank you so much for your quick response and advice. Unfortunately, I do not have a shed nor garage nor basement. This morning I enticed Carl up to my back door and placed food and lake water in containers for him. He stayed until around 1pm and then got into the lake while the other two swans where nowhere to be seen. Carl came back at 3 pm, when I again enticed him to his "spot" at my oddr and repeated the feeding. The two new swans came back to my dock around 5pm, so I made a large commotion using a big yellow plastic rake, throwing water at them. After about 15 minutes, they left. My husband and I have been watching non-stop, and so far, they have not returned. Carl is apparently happy just lounging in a bed of leaves at my back door. Should I allow the swans to get close enough to capture one with the net, or should I continue to harrass them so that they don't even get close enough for an attempted capture? Is there anything else you would recommend since I do not have a place to harbor Carl indoors?
