Hi Amy:

At three years of age, the swans are ready to mate, nest and start a family. You may provide food, but it may not be the ample aquatic vegetation that they require. If the geese are aggressive, the swans may not feel that your habitat has a good nesting site for their needs. Do you have a lot of vegetation, i.e., shrubs, or other nesting materials, straw, hay, etc., around your pond? Are there any predators around your pond, wild or domestic, i.e., raccoons, foxes, dogs, cats, children?

Any of the above reasons would provide the swans with the desire to look for a better habitat. If you want to swans to nest on your pond, you may have to build a nesting pen. Let us know how this progresses. The Regal Swan
