Ask the Swan Specialist

In Response To: mute swans (Liz Neisen)

We have just lost 2 mute swans to a preditor. They had a nest with 4 eggs which we brought into the house. We are not sure how old the eggs are, pprobably about 2 weeks. We are not sure how long the eggs were left in the open. Can you advise us about the possibility of hatching the eggs. We have a borrowed incubator. What is the temp we should keep the eggs at. Do you think we have any chance of success considering the circumstance?
Thanks.

We also have a pair of black swans that are trying to hatch their third set of eggs. the nest is on a float on the lake. So far they have not been successful. Not sure why. Eggs kept disapearing 1 at a time. If the eggs are "bad" or something is wrong would they push the eggs out of the nest into the water?
