Ask the Swan Specialist

In Response To: my swan is missing (Laurie)

Originally, I thought the female was missing, but now I know it is the male. He has been on this pond for years and he always stayed close to the female and cygnets. I have search the pond and surrounding woods, which are not dense, but have found no evidence of him. Would he fly away to die if he was sick or old and leave the family?

The pond is not large and the woods are not dense. There has never been any sign of coyotes or fox in the area. What else could he have fallen prey to?

Thank you for any thoughts you may have on what happened to him.
