Ask the Swan Specialist

In Response To: Swans off nest (Brenda)

We have a pond and wetlands area where a pair of mute swans built a nest and laid 4 eggs of which only one survived and is still in the nest. Today's the first day that neither swan has spent any time on or near the nest. Does this mean the egg is getting ready to hatch or that the egg is no longer viable? Based on our estimate it's been around 5-6 weeks since the eggs were laid.
