Hello,
I live on a 550 acre lake, and in late Febrary a young mute appeared at my dock, which I believe to be a male. There were no cygnets on the lake last year, so he must have migrated here. Approx 2-3 weeks later, two others appeared, which I believe to be a male and a female. Since these three have "found" each other, they are constant companions and frequently do the love dance all together. It this typical? At other times, they seem to switch off, with each one seemingly being the odd-one-out for a day or two. Will the female eventually choose just one? If so, will the males then become aggressive toward each other?
As an update...you may remember that I contacted you several times last year about my disabled, senior male, Carl. I last saw him in December, and I have searched every inch of the lake since February for him. Sadly, I must assume that he didn't survive the winter. However, I choose to believe that Carl sent these three as his replacement!
