Hi Sue:

It is imperative that you get the other swan and any pet ducks off of the lake especially at night. The predator will return. From the description, it is either a bobcat or a mountain lion. Either of these cats will jump on their prey in shallow water and pull it onshore to eat. The head attack and the gutting is something that we have seen from both of these predators. The Regal Swan
