Swans do not normally live in houses or any other such type enclosures. Usually swans reside on open water and banks surrounding the habitat. By sleeping on the open water, swans can protect themselves from predators unless the pond is extremely shallow and predators such as foxes, coyotes, panthers, domestic dogs, bobcats, etc., can walk out into the water without having to swim. If the pond is rather large and has an island, you might want to place plenty of vegetation on the island to attract the swans to sit and preen in the daytime. If they choose to sleep on land, the island will help protect them from land predators getting to them.

If no such island exists, or your pond is small and shallow, you may need to fence the pond (6-8 feet tall). Place chicken wire under the fence to prevent animals such as bobcats, foxes, dogs, etc. from digging under the fencing. Place barbed wire or an angled top to the fence so that predators such as alligators, foxes, raccoons cannot crawl up the fence and over into the pond area. You will need to fence the pond so that approximately 5-6 feet of grass area serves as a dry land perimeter with steepless banks and no rocky areas. You can use sand in some areas as water access and provide some rye grass, petunias, choleaus (no pesticides, fungicides, insecticides or other chemicals) for grazing.

Place a Blitz dog feeder 3 feet into the water so that the swans can feed in the water which will help alert them to predators entering the water while the swans are feeding.
