In Response To: Adult swans chasing a cygnet (John)

I regularly visit a remote pond where 2 swans have cygnets. I watched the adult swans pursuing a cygnet back and forth across the pond while 4 other cygnets were not harassed. I returned to the pond 2 days later and noted only 4 cygnets remain. Can you explain the adult swans's behaviour ?
