We live on a small lake in Michigan. This summer we had one swan family as residents....two parents and one cygnet. Now that the weather is getting cold, the parents seem to be gone and the young swan is still here. We are concerned that soon the lake will freeze, and the young swan will not know where to go. Is this typical behavior to leave the young to function on their own? Thank you.
