Hi JoAnn:

More than likely, the wild swans migrate to warmer weather. The birds do not traditionally stay in an area which may freeze and limited food or shelter resources exist during the winter. Most swans, Trumpeter, Tundra and Mutes seem to head for an area in North Carolina along the Atlantic coast that serves as a migratory stop-over for not only swans, but many waterfowl species.
