This may be a juvenile swan that has been chased from the parents and is looking for new habitat or has gotten off the migratory path and is trying to get its energy level back before leaving.

You cannot tell a female from a male just by looking unless you have raised the birds from hatchings and/or know that a reputable breeder has provided you with a specific gender. Usually, the females have smaller knobs on their bills, but we have seen some females with large knobs so this is not a reliable method.

Since you do not know anything about this swan, i.e., gender, age, wild, captive, etc., it would be very difficult to try and pair this swan with another one. There are no guarantees that it will pair with another swan. The Regal Swan
