Usually, swans do not like to have anything over their heads, so a three walled shelter with roof will not work. This type of shelter will also allow predators to get to the swans. If the swans are to be totally sheltered, they will need to have a barn or shed that is completely enclosed with straw bedding. A food bowl is then placed indoors with the swan. As long as the straw is mucked daily, the food is changed daily and there some ventilation that does not allow for a draft or chilling of the birds, as well as completely protected from predators, placing the swans in such a shelter works much better. You also have to protect the food bowl from pests such as ants and rats.
