Ask the Swan Specialist

In Response To: Black swan cull in Tauranga Harbour (Phil & Barbara)

Hi,
Once again the gun totters in the Bay of Plenty are ready to go and kill large numbers of black swans in Tauranga harbour here in New Zealand

Q- They say the swans destroy sea grass? Could it mot be the case that the swans actually help with the disperal of sea grass seeds?

Q- they also state that the swans endanger aircraft? Is this are real possibility?

We are trying to stop this annual cull, but need all the help we can get from those with the right knowledge and could put forward alternatives. Please help.

Many thanks
