Hi Ciara

There is no way to determine what happened unless you have a necropsy conducted. Also, baby swans should not be taken from their parents until 6-8 months of age. There is a greater probability of survival when the parents can teach them how to be a swan and protect themselves against predators. Swans taken from parents at too young of an age do not get these life skills and may die within the first 16 months. The Regal Swan
