Ask the Swan Specialist

In Response To: Re: sick swan (The Regal Swan)

Hi Donna

If she is not eating on her own, this is not a good sign. She needs to be examined by an experienced avian (bird)/waterfowl veterinarian. She may have an infection, ingested some type of poison or even have egg impaction. She certainly needs supportive care such as a possible i.v. with nutrients to help with dehydration and maybe, an antibiotic depending on results of blood tests.. She needs help immediately or you will lose her. Even then, it may still not be enough to stop her decline in health. The Regal Swan
