In Response To: When allow cygnets on open water (Tracie)

We purchased mute swan cygnets about 6 wks ago. They are approximately 3mths old now and seem to be doing good. It's been a daily routine of feeding, cleaning, watering, housing. We have been keeping them in a pen during the day and housed at night. We have a large pond and I wonder when we can allow them to wander the property freely? I heard we needed to wait until next summer as we would never be able to get them to return to the house for protection at night. Is that correct? How concerned should I be about hawks or other predators from attacking them?
